Sustainable corporate and brand management

Social and ecological responsibility are the future’s top buzzwords for successful corporate and brand management. By the time the European Commission adopts its renewed “EU strategy (2011-14) for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” it will no longer be about “if” but about “how”. For example, one of the proposed actions is to review the Public Procurement Directives to better integrate social and environmental considerations into public procurement.

With regard to the sustainability commitment and a company’s own competitiveness, it is recommended that every company develops an individual CSR marketing strategy. This is because consumers, staff and the general public increasingly associate a brand with the responsibility a company demonstrates towards the environment and society.

CSR brand strategy

At team:penta we have long been involved with the growing area of conflict between companies and society. We started out creating annual reports for companies such as Bayer and Volkswagen. Based on our many years of consulting experience in the area of brand development and management, we now provide our clients with an additional service that is becoming more and more important: building bridges between economy, society and ecology and tying this in to corporate and brand strategies.

From the beginning of 2012 we have been a partner in the project “Change pro CSR” which is being sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs as part of the programme “Gesellschaftliche Verantwortung im Mittelstand” (Social responsibility in small and medium-sized businesses). Our role in the project entails consulting and supporting a total of eleven medium-sized industrial companies in regard to responsible corporate management according to the CSR guidelines.

Consultation and implementation

We develop CSR brand strategies, advise during dialogues with stakeholders, provide support with reporting and implement the results as a sustainability report.

  • developing and defining positions and core statements
  • designing and implementing sustainability reports according to internationally recognised standards such as the GRI Indicator Protocol Set
  • developing CSR specials
  • CSR brand campaigns
  • online reporting
  • summaries/short brochures

Specifying and implementing CSR marketing strategies helps tackle the following challenges:

  • declines in applicants, particularly junior employees
  • demographic changes up to and including an ageing team
  • long-term staff loyalty
  • resource-efficient operation
  • socially responsible dealing whilst still aiming to make a profit
